Ikat Fabric
Ikat fabric is an ancient way of creating fabric designs by resist, dyeing the threads before the fabric is woven. In Thailand, the villagers take the weft and tie small pieces of plastic on the threads. The bounded tied area of thread when put in a dye pot, resist the color and create a pattern when the plastic ties are removed. Traditional Thai ikat fabric decorated in lively and attractive motifs, but modern Thai ikat in cotton and silk have bright color with good imported chemicals.
Ikat fabric is different from other fabrics because ikat fabric is woven by hand. Ikat fabrics are usually 34″ to 39″ wide. Ikat fabric is handwoven, without chemical additives and stresses of the power loom production, are much different look and feel of the machine-made fabrics.
Ikat fabric is unique resist patterns; it looks the same appearance on both sides of the fabric, there is no wrong or right side of the fabric.
The material of ikat fabric is finely woven and takes its influences from the far east, especially Thailand, Indonesia, India and Japan. Ikat fabric is made of silk, wool or cotton.
Ikat fabric is a precious commodity because it is made of silk that to be transported from China, because they are the largest distribution of the silkworm.
